Second Language Training - Higher Levels Now Offered
The MFRC-NCR has been running Second Language courses for years. Recently, there has been a rise in the number of military families expressing the need to increase their understanding and working knowledge of a second official language beyond the courses we have been offering. Due to this rising demand, we are now offering higher level modules in French and English!

A Great New Addition to the Second Language Training Resource Library!
The MFRC-NCR now has audio CDs for Second Language Training in both French and English. You can borrow these items for up to a month! A $20 deposit is required and reimbursed when item is returned.
For more information, contact Monique at (613) 991-4024.

Overview

The MFRC-NCR provides Second Language Training (SLT) to military spouses in both French and English.

The goal of the courses is to provide spouses with a working knowledge of their second language. The courses concentrate on oral communication. At this time, the program is under development and not all modules (levels) are offered at any given time. The curriculum is based on the Canadian Forces second language training although it has been modified for civilians.

The French Language courses are offered in Rockcliffe, Orleans and Uplands and now Kanata, depending on demand. Classes require a minimum of five spouses to a maximum of ten students with priority being given to military spouses. If space is available, serving and retired military members, as well as the general public are able to attend.

The course runs twice weekly for six hours a week. A certificate is presented upon the completion of a module (60 hours).

A deposit of $50.00 is required but will be reimbursed to spouses of serving military members only, if he or she attends 85% of the classes. Students who are serving military members will not be reimbursed. Reimbursements will not be given after the first class or if the participant fails to attend 85% of the classes or cancels. Changing to another class level or location after classes begin is dependent on availability of spaces, and cannot be permitted after the first class.

Retired military members and the general public must pay $100.00 and we are unable to reimburse their fee. For further information please contact the SLT Coordinator at (613) 991-4024.

Childcare expenses for military spouses only: 50% of your childcare expenses can be reimbursed. An original receipt including the hours and wages paid will be required. Reimbursements must be requested by the end of a semester.
